Hooray for Friday!

Today’s been the best day of this never-ending week.

For starters, it was our last day on the PRAIRIE. That, in and of itself, makes it the best day of the week.

For seconds, I met with a fantastic pediatric dietitian, who told me I was doing a great job eliminating MAM’s allergens, and gave me a few things to add to my to-do list on that front. I need to check out our most frequented restaurants to find out about frying oil and assorted additives to meat products. I also need to check labels and exclude products “manufactured on shared equipment” to said allergens. But she also said that phone calls or emails to assorted companies can verify if a specific product is made on shared equipment. Why be so diligent? So that she can totally avoid these foods for awhile, which should facilitate her out growing of said allergens. Without total avoidance, they may not go away or they may pop up later.

Thirdly, I ate every meal out today. I did find it ironic that I ate an exceptional double cheeseburger from Hardee’s on my way to the dietitian, but such is life. Why the sink is still full of dishes is beyond me.

And last but not least, after working for 3.5 hours tonight, my classroom is ready for Monday. And more importantly, the building finally passed inspection, so the classrooms can actually open on Monday. In our lovely new building AND NOT ON THE PRAIRIE.

The Nod

Actual conversation BgK and I had the other night:

BgK: So Mike called with a good story last night. You know how when you see an attractive person on the street, you give them ‘the nod’ ?

Me: Huh? “The Nod”? To people of the same sex or the opposite sex?

BgK: The opposite sex. You see a good looking person on the street and you know, you give them ‘the nod’.

Me: Really? So the guys who give me ‘the nod’ think I’m hot?

BgK: Well, yeah. Do you get a lot nods?

Me: All the time!

BgK: Ok, so anyway, Mike gives some chick on the street ‘the nod’ and she says hi. He says how’s it going and she asks where there’s a good place to get a drink. They go to the bar and get a drink.

Me: really? that never happens to Mike!

BgK: I know. It gets better. So they were having a good time, and exchanged phone numbers—then she starts talking crazy.

Me: How crazy?

BgK: Crazy as in how sexual orientation is determined by the ingestion of soy sauce.

Me: Really?

BgK: Really.

While I feel for Mike, what I took from this conversation was the fact that ‘The Nod’ means that I am, in fact, one hot momma. Tee hee hee! I also learned not to exchange phone numbers until you have chatted long enough with a person to determine if you can handle their level of crazy…..poor Mike!

A weekend of fun and firsts

MAM had a fabulous day Friday, if I do say so myself. Sprinkler day at Rainbow, swimming with friends at home, cheeseburgers and french fries for dinner, French silk pie for her birthday cake, some prezzy’s, what else could a two year old ask for? She was up til almost 11pm, what with all the sugar and toys and what not!

Saturday morning we were all dog-tired, but we dragged ourselves out of bed to head downtown to meet MAM’s bmom, J, and bbro, Z. We went to the state museum and to the IMAX theater there. If you’re going to go to see your first movie, you may as well make it a big one!

The IMAX show was Sharks, 3D and it was really, really cool! MAM was really tired and didn’t wear her glasses, but I did, and it was wild. It really did seem like the jellyfish were swimming in front of us!

MAM made it through the whole 45 minute movie, she got a little antsy, but did just fine overall. We had a good visit with J and Z–not much is new on their front.

After lunch, MAM fell asleep on the way home, and stayed asleep when we brought her upstairs. BgK and I quickly followed suit–we both crashed for two hours as well!

This afternoon we’re off to a cookout after nap time.

The weekend fun just never ends!
