It’s time for round 2!!!

A while back, I was listed as one of the 50 best adoption blogs over at A Child Chosen. In the comments, I made a little comment like, “hey, should I blog about adoption more often? maybe I’ll have to start”….

I guess today will be the official day that I will start doing just that. Because we are working on updating our home study for a second adoption. A second adoption? Really? Yes, really. And it’s not just any second adoption, the plan is that it will be the adoption of MAM’s soon-to-be-born bio sibling. Seriously. Could I make that up?!?!

New Baby (I’ll have to come up with a better nickname soon, I know) will be arriving the beginning of July, and in recent weeks, J’s been talking about placing the baby with us. We are thrilled, of course, at the proposition of adding to our family.

More on all of this as things develop.

Want to read another blog about the impending adoption of a sibling? Please check out Seriously? Over the past few months, Erin’s done an excellent job of posting about the entire process. The joy and excitement of adding to a family, the sorrow and the awkwardness that the gain is someone else’s very real and tangible loss.

Build-A-Bear Madness

We may have started a bad, bad, bad, thing. Yesterday we initiated MAM and Z to the wonders of Build-a-Bear. It wasn’t anything we planned, really, it just sort of happened. We needed to come up with something to do for Z’s birthday, and our spring like weather had flown, sooo….we took them to Build-a-Bear. It was really all very cute. A complete and total racket, but really cute.

And I will always remember it as the day the MAM actually named a stuffed animal. She and daddy made a very cute koala bear. She put a cute jean skirt and pink top on it, refused shoes (no! bear has paw prints!) and named it…..ALEX.

But really, her favorite part? The “present” box. She carried that thing throughout the entire mall.

We had a good visit with J and Z. We did Build-a-Bear, the mall playground, and then Burger King, where MAM and Z had the playland all to themselves. We had one tired monkey on our hands last night!

Happy Birthday, Z!

MAM’s birth brother, Z, is six years old today. He’s celebrating with two girlfriends, his uncle and his mom at Chuck E. Cheese this afternoon. Hopefully, we’ll get to see them this weekend. I can’t believe he is SIX now–it just seems so old. He was three when we met him in the summer of 2005. I know three year olds. I know four and five year olds pretty well too. But six? What do you get a six year old for his birthday? Can you still pass off clothes as a gift? Are matchbox cars still the perennial safe gift? I don’t know! I will have to talk to J and see how this afternoon went, and then plan our gift-giving accordingly. What’s fun is that this year MAM can definitely make him a card, and say and sing “Happy Birthday!”
