done belly aching

Ok, I’m over it. Or at least most of it.

My wallowing was interrupted by the world’s sweetest girl and how smart she really is. Last night she was getting ready for bed, laying on her pillow, holding her blanket. We’d read “Good Night Moon” and said prayers. I was patting her back, and said, “M, are you ready for your music?” At that she sat up, smiled, opened her mouth and started bouncing and shaking her shoulders!!!!! I didn’t mean THAT kind of music!!!! I totally lost it–fits of hysterical laughter, which then just made her dance more. Seriously, one of the funniest damn things I have EVER seen.

So bed time was delayed, because I had to call Daddy upstairs, and we had to have a little dance party. Then she found Hop on Pop (she call the book Pop!), and we had to go entirely though that book. And we realized she knows which book is which–she can pick out about 5 books by name. And she can find almost anything we ask her to point to in the pictures. When we calmed down again, and put on sleepy-time music, I think she fell asleep about 5 seconds after her head hit the pillow.

She never ceases to amaze me EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

Self-pity post

Every so often, things come crashing down around me. I think this is one of those times. M is sick….AGAIN. She had the fever Tuesday and part of Wednesday. Perked up Wednesday afternoon, and went back to daycare yesterday. Yesterday afternoon she started coughing. Coughing so hard that she threw up. Coughing so hard that she’s gagging. It was so sad, and slightly scary. It’s not the croup cough, it’s not very productive, it’s not accompanied by any other severe symptoms. It’s just there. So, of course, we are home again today. And I have to make the dreaded “I’m not coming into work again” calls, which I am too familiar with. And this time, the teacher with whom I am currently working brings up the fact that M is in daycare and that is why she is getting sick. DUH. And maybe I need to make other arrangements for her. In my head I’m thinking, “because there are SO many other great affordable options out there! NOT!” Just the conversation I want to have at 7am after being awake from 3-5am with the coughing child.

I called the Dr. this morning, and at this point, he doesn’t want to see her. He gave me the usual litany of cool mist humidifier, cough syrup DM, lots of fluid, blah blah blah. Great. Thanks. And of course it’s Friday, which means if she gets worse over the weekend, we’ll be back in the ER or a Med Check place, spending 4x the amount of an office visit. Not that that will stop us from taking her, but seriously, why must it be the weekend. At least I won’t have to call in sick the next two days. 🙂

And maybe all of that wouldn’t have gotten me down if in fact, I felt better myself. But that crazy epidural pain shot I had Tuesday? Not working. Now I did like the doc a lot, and he said it would take a few days, and he said to call next week if it isn’t any better….but that doesn’t change the fact that today it isn’t any better. So I continue to limp, tend to my sickie and wallow at the current state of our affairs! It’s my blog, so I can wallow all I want.

On to other things I’ve been thinking about:
1) The poor little boy who was kidnapped by his mom after she and her boyfriend killed the social worker who brought him to visit. Does it get any sadder than that? It makes my current problems seem like a hill of beans. I do realize this.

2) If Barack Obama decides to run for President, I think I may vote for him.

3) The holidays are coming up, and it will be so much fun! Assuming we are all on the mend by then–Halloween, T-day, and Christmas promise to be a blast this year with M and all of her cousins. The special clothes, the traditions, the excitement, the food, the visiting, the decorating….it will be a bit much, but so much fun! Maybe I’ll start some online shopping to get myself in the Holiday spirit.

4)Hop on Pop by Dr. Suess–could there be a book with less of a point?? It’s currently M’s favorite, and OMG,it’s making me batty!! Her favorite page is PAT CAT Pat sat on cat. And she points to the cat and shrieks. It’s funny, but seriously, we are reading this book 10 times a day. I think it may have to go back to the library soon!!

Mother of the Year

I can’t believe it’s been a week since my last post. Things have been just nuts….and this morning, the icing on the proverbial cake.

I always wondered how parents could bring a sick child to school. How they could say, “She’s a little off this morning–if she’s really not feeling well, call me.” This morning, though, I did just that.

It was a dark, damp, drizzling morning, one where I had to wake M up to get going. She felt a little warm, and was a little more needy than usual, but I chalked it all up to the dismal weather. I did take her temp, and it was 98.2. I dropped her off, saying just what countless parents have said to me–I think she’s Ok, if she’s not, please call.

In the 25 minutes that passed between the time I took her temp and the day care took her temp, it had shot up 3 degrees!! They actually called work BEFORE I got there…I went in the front door, got the message, and turned around and went back to pick her up.

She appears to have no other symptoms–she’s warm (even with Motrin), and cuddly, but not unhappy. It really is a good day to lounge around.

Sort of like last Friday, but different, in that her 1 symptom today doesn’t REEK. Reek, you ask?? Friday night M and I bummed a ride with friends 1/2 way to my parents house for the weekend. We weren’t even on the highway when M started vomitting. We changed clothes twice before we were even out of the city. After that, we just used a really big towel. Now, 5 days later, the van seat still smells. We had to dissect her car seat to get it clean–soooo gross. But Friday she was just sick to her stomach, the rest of the weekend was fine.

The rest of the weekend was acutally a lot of fun–we got to play with lots of cousins, wish Great Grandma a happy 93rd birthday and celebrate cousin Jimmy’s baptism.

Tomorrow I’m hoping to report pain-free–I go for an injection this afternoon for my pinched nerve/herniated disk. It’s always something, isn’t it??
