From Illinois, With Love

I had two fun things waiting for me today, both from Chicagoland.

Fun thing number one was a book I won from A Child Chosen, courtesy of Marcie. The Motherbridge of Love is a darling book, and great for the adoption triad in general. Written specifically for children born in China and placed for adoption internationally, it is beautifully illustrated and touching. I sat down to read it with MAM, and we read through it four times in a row. She was mesmerized. Who knows how much of it she understands at this time, but it’s going on our bookshelf.

Fun thing number two was my be.ology tee from the Chased by Children giveaway. Jenny said I’d be amazed at the speed with which my tee would arrive, and she was right. I emailed her my choice Tuesday night and it arrived today. And I must say, I LOVE IT. It’s soft, it fits and makes me look like a girl, not a tent (a problem with tees for me), and did I mention, I LOVE IT. I may have to invested in a be.wardrobe.

In other news, it’s snowing again. And a week from now, we’ll be all settled into the Orlando condo. There is a light at the end of tunnel!

Another week, another giveaway

Note that the button under my Etsy widget has changed….Chased by Children’s giveaway has wrapped up (with me! the Grand Prize Winner! ) and now I’m a Drama Mama (Thea) has announced that she’s doing a giveaway in honor of her 1 year blog-o-versary and that she’s having two contests….one for everyone and one for people who post the button. So you know I’m posting the button…I’m feeling lucky!

Other things? It is really good to be home. MAM seems to have grown in leaps and bounds in the four days I was gone. More words, a hair taller…amazing.

I’ve started laundry (oh the laundry) but haven’t even thought about grocery shopping yet. In a way, I’m sort of putting it off–we are leaving again a week from tomorrow (!!) for 5 days…granted, we’ll need to eat between now and then, but maybe we can sort of clear out the pantry between now and then.

Works for me Wednesday: SHOPPING!

I’m a little boring when it comes to online shopping. Mostly, I stick to Amazon.com because they have everything under the sun at good prices. Most recently, I have signed up for their subscription service, and have gotten great prices on some of MAM’s special allergy-free foods. Now her breadsticks and cereal bars get shipped to the house. It’s been a great time saver, and money saver too!

Other places I frequent are Overstock.com and LandsEnd.com–I’ve had good luck finding gifts there, and they run great sales and shipping deals as well. Since I’m all about the bargain and saving money, I always search for online coupons before I buy, and try to shop through either Igive.com (where a % goes to charity) or at my credit card’s** online portal, because I get more cash back that way.

Most recently, I’ve fallen in love with Etsy.com for window shopping–it’s like shopping at the little stores you find on vacation or in a college town, only I can really look, instead of fielding the toddler through the store. Lots of the photographs are really artsy, and it’s just a really happy place! Wanna check it out? Start at my store, StirCrazyandSuch–my friends and I have bracelets and soaps on sale to benefit a friend who is undergoing cancer treatment.

**I recently read an article that suggests to always use a credit card online rather than a debit card–if there is a security breech and a theif gets your debit card info, your bank account can be drained right-quick and you are up a creek without money to buy a paddle (and the liability rules are different)–rumor has it, you are much more protected, and less liable, if all hell breaks loose on your credit card.
