Weirdness

Upon paying for my haircut and reaching for my coat: “Um, Peggy (my hairdresser)? I think your last client took my coat. This one isn’t mine.”

The first client had slipped on my long beige coat and drove on her merry way…I went over to her beige coat (very, very similar) and realized that her cell phone was in her pocket. How could we reach her?

Well, my cell phone was in my coat pocket. Peggy called her and thankfully, she answered.

“Jan, your not wearing your coat.”

“Really? I guess that makes sense. This isn’t my phone! I’ll be back in a minute.”

We swapped coats and I went on my merry way. Definitely in the running as “Oddity of the Week”.

It’s the Little Things

Thank you to everyone who’s commented and emailed in regards to my brother and sister-in-law’s loss, your thoughts and prayers mean the world to my family.

It is,of course, MAM who has brought light to these days, and the older she gets, the funnier she gets. Here is a sampling of what we’ve heard this week:

As I hand her a quarter, she inspects it and says, “Where’s the eagle, Mama?” (it was a state quarter. who knew that she knew there is an eagle on a regular quarter?)

As my phone starts to vibrate on the kitchen table, it makes sort of a familiar sound that MAM names–“It’s a gas phone, Mama!”

She’s taken to putting me to bed–she’ll throw a pillow on the floor and tell me it’s time to sleep–she then barks, “Stop running! Lay down! Close your eyes! Don’t get up!” while trying to cover the 5’10” me with her baby blanket. Hilarious, and I’m all for a game that involves me laying down and closing my eyes.

Tonight, as she sits in my lap and touches my face, “You got a beard, Mama?” (if it’s a question she has to ask, it’s probably time for a waxing or two)

Today it was warm enough for her to ride her trike (which she can now pedal like a champ) up and down the block–it was good to get outside and just breathe.

HOME

Here I am, finally home from a long weekend education conference. The conference was incredible for many, many reasons, some of which I may or may not delve into over the next few days. Let me just run down in list formation things that happened or that I learned while I was away:

1) A small hole in your sock at the beginning of a day of travel gets progressively bigger and more annoying as the day goes on. It can make one feel very self-concisous as you go shoeless through security.

2) “Full Service” hotels charge more than Starbucks for a cup of coffee, and more than any place else on the planet (I think) for Wi-Fi. $12.99 a day in your room–are you kidding me??

3) Toddlers sound VERY old on the phone. And very far away.

4) I saw four friends/colleagues that I hadn’t seen in over 9 years and didn’t expect to see…yet upon seeing each other we ran up and embraced right away. Obviously, these means we are all aging well since we recognized each other right away. Right?

5) It is fan-freakin’-tastic to come home to a clean house and to a giant prize from a fantabulous giveaway.

With that, I am going to go get my head screwed on straight for tomorrow morning.
