An Adoption Post

Today was my little class “holiday social”. In true preschool style, the room mom had everyone over for crafts and cookies after school today. It was really a delightful time for kids and moms (and 2 dads!).

As the kids played in the basement, the moms talked around the table. Moms and 1 grandma–1 grandma on duty b/c mom and dad are in China going through the adoption process. Once international adoption came up, then the mom next to me piped up and talked about the fact that the two oldest of her three kids are internationally adopted. Just amazing that in such a small group (9 families), there were so many connections to adoption. It just makes me feel that M will not be alone when the time comes for her to start at Montessori.

Also on the adoption front, in browsing Target yesterday, I noticed an end cap with several adoption related-items, all with the theme “I am chosen”. A little more internationally themed, but still nice to see any sort of adoption items at major retailers, IMO.

Thirdly on the adoption front, I spoke with J and G Saturday. We haven’t been able to set up a date for a Christmas visit yet, but we were able to speak for a few minutes. J was sorry to hear that M is slated for tubes on the 21st–she herself had 3 sets of tubes as a kid! I myself am glad to know that that sort of thing. And since we’ve had several rough nights in a row, I’m thinking tubes will be a VERY. GOOD. THING.

Holiday Happenings

I just ordered M’s Christmas print on Snapfish. Wee! So far, she’s loving everything about Christmas except the Jolly Old Man himself. We’ve tried Santa on numerous occassions, and really, she just clings to me for dear life. Oh well. Jesus is the reason for the season anyway, right? And she digs her little wooden Nativity set. Well, she digs tearing apart the stable. We’ll get to playing the Holy Family sooner or later, I’m sure.

This weekend was filled with fun–Friday night L and I went on a date while Grandma babysat. Dinner and shopping at Target–does it get much better than that? It was date night at Target, that’s for sure–lots of couples clutching lists, I assume looking for gifts. We actually ran into friends of mine from my days at the tutoring center–strangely enough their Christmas party was at a restuarant next to Target. Small, small world.

Saturday we hit ToysRUs with Grandma, and while I picked up one measley gift, Grandma made a serious dent in her list! We then went over to the mall and M got some new Stride Rite shoes. In May/June she was a 4 1/2. Saturday she measured in at a 6 1/2!!! She’s my incredible growing girl!

After Grandma headed home and M took a nap, we went to our first “gymnastics” birthday party. What a perfect place for the 3 and under set to just wander around and jump to their heart’s content.

Sunday was another attempt at breakfast with Santa (last saturday was our first attempt)–thankfully Santa was in anothe room so we could have a pleasant breakfast before getting freaked out by the big guy. Then after nap we took our award-winning Christmas card picture, and headed downtown to look at the all the pretty lights. I capped the night off with a night cap with girlfriends at a Cookie Exchange.

Ah the holidays.

Other Stuff

Everything else just continues to move on….I continue to make small progress at the chiro’s as I rack up frequent flyer miles there. M’s gone 2x now but is still pulling on her ears. We’re scheduled for tubes on Dec 21st–I just can’t stand the thought of her having to go through this much longer. We may hold off if we get in for a recheck before that and her ears are clear….but it seems like this is the most proactive thing we can do at the moment.

Work is still bat-crap crazy–no other way to describe it. Counting down the days til the holiday break. Seriously considering playing the lottery, because you have to play to win.

WTF?

Seriously, why haven’t I been able to leisurely hang around the internet, reading blogs of interest, googling assorted things that come into my head?? I have no idea, but I just know that things just keep getting busier and busier and busier. AUUGGGHHH!

Strange things I’d write more detailed antedotes about if I had the time:

1) M and her fascination with everything Christmas. I WILL find the time to post on this. It may be March, but I will post.

2) Some jackass stole my JoAnn’s ETC coupon yesterday. I kid you not. You know how they always put a 40% off coupon in the sunday paper? Well, I hadn’t put anything in my cart yet-just the sales flyer. And I was in the ribbon aisle, which is tiny, so I left the cart on the end of the aisle. I came back, the flyer was gone!! Bastards.

3) M’s first visit to the chiro. She did fine, he thinks it might help. I haven’t noticed anything different about her.

4)M’s joy at discovering I was making cookies today. She’s never seen me do that before (it must be Christmas). She ran around the kitchen saying, “Coo-kie! Coo-kie! Coo-kie!” She saw them as batter in the bowl. She saw them baking in the oven. She saw them cooling on the rack. SO exciting. Cookies for everyone!

That’s it–laundry, dishes, other assorted tasks are calling. Blah.
