STILL sick

Here I am, once again, posting about the fact that M is STILL SICK. She slept for 17 hours last night, woke up, drank about 16 oz of juice/milk, laid around for awhile, had horrible, up to her shoulder diarreha, and was asleep three hours later.

In consulting with the doc, we’ve stopped her current antibiotic and will be starting a new one tomorrow. I’m to keep pushing fluids any way she will take them. I’m actually using the medicine dropper–she takes motrin and what not willingly in it, so I’m putting pedialyte in it and tricking her into taking a few mLs at a time. THIS SUCKS.

Had a weird conversation with a friend I’ve been keeping posted about the situation today. She was relaying a conversation she had with a mutual friend. Said mutual friend said something to the effect of how it’s hard with children who are adopted because you don’t know the medical history, etc. Which I found odd. M is sick with some sort of infection, yes. But it’s not a mystery disease. It’s very likely some sort of cold/flu type thing that all kids get, adopted or not. She’s 14 months old and weighs 24lbs. Of course it’s going to knock her on her butt. And, BTW, we do have a medical history. I’ve got a pretty good background on Z as well, and guess what? He gets colds too! If she were being raise by J and G there is nothing that they know that we don’t know that could possibly effect her treatment in any way, shape or form.

I guess its more weird that other people even think about M as adopted and that how we parent/her medical care is at all effected because she’s adopted…..only because it’s really not on the fore front of my mind these days.

I could have danced all night….

The Ball was a huge success! I haven’t heard how much $$ was raised, but it was a really enjoyable time. The setting, the Indiana Roof Ballroom, is just the most beautiful place, you can’t help but be in a festive mood while you are there.

I don’t know what you can tell from this picture, but the tables had beautiful white floral center pieces with silver stars and smelled soooo good. There were stars from the spotlight on the ballroom floor, it was really pretty!

The auction was GREAT–I wish I had numbers, but I don’t yet. All in due time, I’m sure. Anyway, I gathered the items for two people who spent over $1000. So if 10 people did that, we’re golden!

The Dancing with the Stars was a HOOT–the local weatherman danced to “I Love a Rainy Night”, the agency director did a Tango, the deputy Mayor did some racy moves and the priest from the cathedral did some VERY racy moves–for a priest–with a little gal who does hip-hop and swing. It was a riot, and we raised $2300 on the dance contest by selling paddles for people to vote for their favorite dancers.

The food was divine–fancy greenery salad with pears, nuts, bleu cheese; fabulous rich and creamy potatoes au gratin, the delightful steam veggie mix of green beans, wax beans and carrots, and moist chicken and beef (truly, the meat was just OK, but the rest of the meal was great). Add a little table wine and some bread and color me happy.

Then…..dessert!

It tasted even better than it looked—you can’t tell from the picture that it was FUDGE CAKE, thick chocolate mousse, real whip cream…..OH SO delightful.

Here’s the quick write up from Saturday morning’s “BUZZ” page..scroll down past Mitch’s appearance and read about our fab night!

What’s a first birthday like in an open adoption? In our case, loads of fun! On M’s actual birthday, J called from work to say hello. She was at work, so I couldn’t really tell how she was handling everything, but she called to say happy birthday and can you believe it’s been a year?
In some ways it amazes me that the planets aligned to bring us all together the way that they did.

We finalized our plans for the following Saturday.

This past Saturday we met J, G & Z at the zoo for M’s b-day visit. We borrowed a wagon (the cool kind with seats and cupholders) and had a great time. Seriously, it’s a lot like visiting with in-laws or cousins or something. We enjoyed our time together, there was lots of laughing and talking. They enjoyed seeing M, and she warmed up to them right away. She and Z were hilarious in the wagon together. We all enjoyed the animals, we caught up on our families, and had a good time. They brought her a collectible Barbie–the Leo one, which is her sign, you know! I brought a pan of brownies, so we popped in the “#1” candle and sang happy birthday and clapped one more time for baby girl. Then we said our good byes (nap time in a serious way) and said we’d be in touch, and of course, pictures would be emailed shortly!
