Good Night, Sweet Summer

Tonight we took the kids out for frozen yogurt, at a a newer place in town called Huddles. It’s self-serve yogurt sundaes, sold by the ounce–Heaven. To add to the excitement, it’s a Colt’s themed store, and preseason football was on, so jr was in his glory.

On the way home, we asked MaM what her favorite parts of the summer were (kindergarten starts tomorrow!)….I was wondering what she was going to say–

would it be the Fairy Oaks Dairy? our trip to the beach? the crazy Saturday at the Children’s Museum? all of our time spent at the pool? all of our time spent at the library? her own 5th birthday? our adventures at Conner Prairie? the fun time she had at Camp Grandma?

….without missing a beat, MaM answered, “The Ice Cream we just ate!”

Are your kiddos in school yet? (here kids start as early as August 10th & as late as August 23rd)Did they have a favorite summer moment? Please share!

Spinning Upon Re-Entry

I’ve been home for two days now, but my head is still spinning from this past weekend. There is SO MUCH that I want to do, I’m not sure where to start.

To complicate matters, I’m no longer living in a quiet, serene, adult like hotel room. I’m facing a mountain of laundry, an empty fridge and annoying little fruit flies who invaded while we were gone.

I’m accepting the reality of our decline in income, and need to map out a plan to make ends meet/adjust auto debits to come out of the proper account/navigate the fun world of filing for unemployment.

I’m getting MaM ready for school, the kink there being that for the past few days, she’s decided to wear shorts. For those of you who know her in real life, this will present quite the predictament.  For the past year, she’s only worn dresses, the bigger the better. Now she wants to wear shorts. She only owns about three pairs because she just doesn’t wear them. Til now, apparently.

I boxed up my personal items from my classroom today. That was awkward at best. But it’s over and done, my keys are turned in and now I can start to discern what it is I’d like to do next.

Mostly I’d like to play on the internets. After the laundry, the dishes, and the child-wrangling.

To sum up: Please stay tuned for the chapter here. As soon as I know what it is, I’ll be sure to share.

Back Home Again: a BlogHer recap

I  suppose officially BlogHer ended Saturday night. I’m just getting around to talking about it today–it’s been a long couple of days on re-entry.

The highlights and most important things I realized are summed up nicely on Grown In My Heart. Meeting those women in person, sharing meals, brainstorming and getting reprimanded by hotel security–well, it bonds people.  That was absolutely the best part of the weekend.

Networking with others was also a great part of the weekend–meeting other bloggers and companies that “get” the online community, was fantastic. Seeing my friends from Hallmark, and celebrating Christmas in August was magical.

The two actual workshop session which were most helpful were the two relating to resume writing/online profiles and offline networking for online people.

The expo halls were overwhelming, but a lot of fun. After sorting through all of my swag, I have come up with a list of just a few things I want to talk about in the future.

I also came home with so many reusable shopping bags that I really have no excuses–I can never use another plastic shopping bag again.

And as a little present for anyone who stops by this week, here is a coupon code for you from  Soap.com ( a new, drugstore/household product site, related to diapers.com):
