Thursday Thirteen #8

So it’s been awhile…but I’ve managed a list for this week’s TT. I was inspired driving to work the other day–it was a trivia question about R.E.M and they played “Crush with Eyeliner” and I turned it up and had a fabulous commute that day. And I began to wonder–why don’t I listen to R.E.M more often? I freakin’ LOVE R.E.M. So today’s list is in honor of R.E.M., one of my all time favorite bands. Here’s a list (in no particular order) of some of my favorite songs:

1. The One I Love (Probably the first REM song I ever heard–I was in the 8th or 9th grade)
2. The End of the World as We Know It (saw this one live in concert–INCREDIBLE!)
3. Stand (used to dance to this one with the kids I babysat)
4. Shiny Happy People
5. I am Superman (Love, Love, Love this song)
6. Everybody Hurts
7. Crush with Eyeliner
8. Losing my Religion
9. World Leader Pretend
10. Radio Free Europe
11. Don’t Go Back to Rockville
12. Sweetness Follows
13.Drive

And for kicks, here’s Michael Stipe being silly. Oh, and there’s a new album out next week.

  1. That’s awesome! I remember dancing to Stand at school. And I saw End of the World live, too. It was awesome. We had grass seats and it just started pouring down rain when the played it. It was madness!!

  2. When we saw R.E.M. during the “Monster” tour, they closed with “It’s the End of the World…”. That is one of my favorite concerts. Along with some of the ones you mentioned, some of my favorite tunes by them are:

    Near Wild Heaven
    Exhuming McCarthy
    Gardening At Night
    The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight
    Disturbance at the Heron House

Although I rarely buy CDs anymore, I might pick up the R.E.M. album when it comes out.

    Excellent T 13!

  3. How do I not know Crush? I swear I dont’ remember that one!

Everybody Hurts – their all time BEST MOST ROCKIN’ song!!! hands down.

But man, can Stand and End of the World get it all pumpin’.

    Sigh. I miss the 80’s.
