Fiberlicious

So Tuesday, the day of the MayDay Challenge is fast approaching. I did some brainstorming last night. I’m still no where near any sort of “menu planning”, but I’ve got breakfast and snacks covered. And really, if you have snacks, in my book, you’ve got it made.

As anyone who knows WW knows, one of the main keys of a healthy weight is fiber. The more of it you eat, the better you feel, the less crap, literally, hangs out in your colon, the better. So I am always on the look out for good “carbs”–snacky foods with Fiber with a capital F.

I went to the Mothership of Fiber last night–Trader Joe’s. If you don’t know the joy that is TJ’s, I am sorry. I LOVE Trader Joe’s. I always find fantastic food at decent prices and the whole crew who works there is just so darn happy to be there that you can’t help but be in a good mood too.

Last night was not different. I found some great new (to me) snacks and picked up some old favorites. And then I took them home, figured out the points, pre-portioned the ones that needed it and ate just 1 portion of one item (and 1 portion of another…but that’s it).

Here’s what’s in my pantry:

Cinnamon sugar pita chips: the info on the side is decieving–sure it’s only 2pts per serving, but a serving is 1 oz!! That’s like a chip and a half. So I divided the bag into 3 servings (instead of 7) and called each bag 4 points.

Sweet and salty cookies: OMG!! Light and crunchy, sort of like peanut butter cookies but better…only 1 pt per cookie!!

Chocolate toucan bite size graham crackers: Pre-packaged in 100 calorie bags. 2 points. Haven’t tried them yet, but how can they be bad??

Whole Wheat English Muffins: These bad boys pack 5 grams of fiber per muffin, which makes them just 2pts. Add 1 tbsp of peanut butter and you’ve got a fiber/protein rich breakfast, with a point or two for coffee cream and some fruit!!!

To Do:
find and dust off pedometer
plan some freakin’ dinners already
buy a scale
take a “before” picture

Plain White T’s – Hey There Delilah

For starters, thank you for the Babe’s get well wishes. We’re home again today. The fever seems to be holding off, but she still hasn’t eaten anything, and prefers to be cuddled up with Blanket and Pillow in front of the TV for hours on end……JUST NOT RIGHT.

Anyway.

I remember, very clearly, becoming obsessed with music in junior high. I think getting my own pink radio/tape player is what sealed the deal, along with a GE personal cassette player (ala the Walkman). That pink radio spent the next 6 years next to my bed, on the floor, tuned into mostly Z95 and then later, when I became slightly cooler, 93WXRT. It was on the floor so I could reach it while doing homework or reading or talking on the phone, at a moment’s notice. Because always, in said radio was a blank tape.

A blank what? A blank tape. You know, a memorex or sony cassette. I taped all my favorite songs off the radio for future listening. Because the quality was so clear. Not. Because it was so FREE. Later, once my brother got a dual cassette deck, we started dubbing our friends’ cassettes and keeping copies for ourselves. We started making “mix tapes”. Those were the days.

Awhile ago, I posted about my discovery of YouTube, and today I discovered another purpose. Basically, it’s a databank for everyone in the world who has an affection for taping things off the radio (or at a concert).

Since the death of tape, I haven’t been as “into” music. Sure I have CD’s. BgK has converted most of our stuff on to MP3, though I don’t know much about that format. I haven’t taped a song off the radio in forever.

But I still, every now and then find I song that I really like to listen to, and will turn on the radio in hopes of hearing it. When I do, part of me still wished to press the green record button and the peach play button at the same time and save to memorex forever. You know, in case I want to hear it again and it’s not on the radio.

That’s where YouTube comes in. I can just log on there, do a search and listen away to my heart’s content. No buying the CD or learning about MP3’s for me……this is music on demand with pictures!

So if you haven’t yet….hit play already. My guess is you’ll be going to YouTube and checking these guys out too.

The Sickness

We haven’t gotten the results of the throat culture yet, but whatever this SICKNESS is, it’s for the birds. The Babe is still very pathetic, with occasional bouts of vomit. I think she’s eaten 10 goldfish crackers in the past 4 days–it’s just not right. Thankfully, she’s still drinking and sleeping like a champ. And while our five Baby E DVD’s are in heavy rotation, it’s really not all that bad from my point of view. Of course, I don’t have a bacteria farm at the back of my throat, and haven’t felt compelled to sleep 19 hours a day.

This week BgK and I have taken turns staying home, and it’s worked out quite well. I’m on tomorrow, and I think we’ll flip a coin for Friday. I’m not sure if I want heads or tails. Actually, since Grey’s Anatomy is a 2hour special, and it will be on until 11pm, I think I want to stay home Friday. I’m banking that one of us will be.
