Let the Sunshine In

So Julie at …and the rest is history is having a contest–a contest for people to post about how you deal with the gloomies. About how, exactly, your inner sunshine comes out when winter seems to never end.

So.My
sunshine.
I would have to say that my sunshine comes in the form of my friends. I find I get the most cranky when I’ve had a hectic week and haven’t had time to actually interact with the people I like the most in this world. And as much as I love the internet, an email just doesn’t cut it. I don’t feel as good after reading or sending an email as I do after a phone conversation or a lunch with a friend.

At this point in my life, it takes extra effort, but it is so worth it to find the time for girlfriends. I make phone calls during my 10 minute commute. I try to meet friends for coffee if I’m out in the evenings. I make lunch dates on my days off with my SAHM friends. And I find, when I do this, my sun just shines like it’s the middle of June, even if it’s 5 below outside!

Go check out the details at …and the rest is history and share how you spread your sunshine! You could win an Amazon gift certificate!

It’s like something straight out of the Jetsons…

Since becoming a mom, I’ve come to truly appreciate the solace of a hot shower. Alone. You know, the kind of shower where you don’t have half an ear out of the shower curtain, listening to the pitter patter of little feet because the door is locked. And shaving both legs, shampooing and conditioning, and face cleansing all happen. The thing is, not only do I have to carve out a time to do all that, but then there’s the matter of blow drying said hair. There have been plenty of mornings when I’m getting ready for work that I surpass the shampoo just because I know I don’t have the 20 minutes it takes to blow dry my hair.

That’s why this Salon Grafix shampoo caught my interest. It doesn’t require water, privacy or blow drying. It just sprays on, you brush your hair (I try to get out of that on the lowest of maintenance days, but truly, I usually have time to do that, at least). Dry shampoo, friends, dry shampoo. I’m thinking that this will come in handy on mornings when I’m running late, and for evening engagements when I don’t have time between work and wherever I’m going for more than a quick pick me up.

Salon Grafix offers formulas for specific shades of hair, and leaves no powder or residue. I’m thinking that having a bottle of this in my glove box for a quick refresh may just help me feel a little more pulled-together on those rush-rush mornings.

This me, cluelessly spreadin’ the love

A blogging friend of mine, Mama 2Roo, wants to know where everyone is and is offering a prize if you tell her!

I personally, do not of the bloggy-nastieness of which she speaks (honest, I’m just on a Christmas break), but she’s asking for happy, non-adoption related posts. And she’s offering a prize if you do as she asks.

So here’s my happy post (aren’t most of my posts happy anyway?) :

Have you read Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert yet? I’ve gotten through the first of three parts–it’s lovely. I’m taking my time with it (I’ve read two books in between) because I don’t really want it to end. I can’t really even describe it–it’s one woman’s journey that starts because she’s ready for a change, and it falls into place that she can basically spend a year traveling–eating in Italy, praying in India and loving in Indonesia. It’s a stunning read, heartfelt, but not heavy (at least not yet).

Go read it already! You’ll be glad you did.
