Lunchbox Buddies Bringing Smiles to Lunches Across Town {a Giveaway}

We have officially reached the part of the school year where I’m kind of over getting the kids out the door every day. Signing the assignment notebook, checking the reading log, verifying the “Take Home” folder is indeed being sent back to school- the list goes on. Now that it’s colder we’re also auditing the hats and gloves and what nots.

And then there are the lunch boxes.Oh the lunch boxes. There are the actual boxes that are slightly caked with bread globs in all of the crevices, and then the containers I’m happy to see have made it home to live another day. Bah.

Enter: Lunchbox Buddies

Lunchbox Buddies are the creation of Jim Adorney, and they make school lunches more fun. These funky monsters add a smile to my day as I pick one out to put in the lunch boxes, and the kids get a kick out of them when they open their lunch boxes.  Who wouldn’t love a  little, “hey, I’m thinking of you” in the middle of the day?

This week, we are home from school (our ‘balanced’ calendar is another post for another day), and I’ve been using these notes around the house since the kids have been asleep when I leave in the morning. They give a little giggle during a week I’m trying to make fun for them while simultaneously working, getting ready to a road trip and looking ahead to December.

Give a Book, Get a Book

Nearly every teacher my kids have had say the same thing. They say, “You can tell they’ve been read to.” I know what they mean- they want to listen to stories, they’ve pretty much always known which way a book opens, and they’ve always had their favorites. Now one of their favorite “treat” meals is featuring one of their favorite things- books.

McDonald’s of Central Indiana is holding a “Give a Book,  Get a Book” campaign for the first half of November. Donate a gently used book at a collection location, and get a coupon for a free Happy Meal. What’s the Happy Meal toy through November 14th? Why it’s books! See all of the collection spots on Indy with Kids. We’ll be heading down to Indy Reads with some books we’re ready to pass on soon.

McDonalds USA will be distributing four books, especially written for this campaign, featuring characters making nutritional and active lifestyle choices. They are super cute, and I know they’ll be a big hit with my crew.

My Life at the Movies and the New College Park Studio Movie Grill {A Giveaway}

I don’t see movies like a used to (last week was an awesome exception)- but when I do, I like to make sure that I’m seeing something worth seeing on the big screen. There are a few movies I remember seeing quite vividly from my younger days, either because they were extremely good or something memorable happened before, during or after the show. I worked at a movie theater on college breaks, so my knowledge of early 90s major motion pictures far surpasses any other time period.
