Christmas in July: Living on Baby Time

**THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED! STAY TUNED FOR WINNERS!**
Today we are midway through this fabulous Bloggy Giveaways carnival. Have you entered to win Monday’s and Tuesday’s ornaments as well?

Today’s Hallmark Keepsake Ornament is perfect for a new baby and the parents he or she commands. “Baby Time” is a darling ornament, featuring all of the important aspects of Baby Care, and as a mom of a 1 month old, the clock is pretty accurate! You can wind the clock to see the hands move and hear the alarm ring as well.

When you are living on baby time, there are several neat features on the Hallmark.com website that can be real lifesavers. There are free ecards to send last minute greetings, paper cards you can order and that they will send for you, and templates to match their stationery (so that you can type your message and print right onto the stationery you purchased without worrying about the margins).

To enter, please leave me a comment telling me your best (or worst) sleep deprived move while caring for a new baby -or- who you’d give this to if you win!

My worst sleep deprived moment? Scooping out two scoops into the coffee maker….sniffing…realizing I’d just scooped two scoops of formula powder, not coffee into my coffee maker!!

You can earn an extra entry by mentioning and linking this giveaway on your own blog, just tell me you’ve done so in the comments. Comments will stay open til Friday afternoon. You don’t need to have a blog to win, just be sure there’s a valid email address in your comment. Open to US and Canada bloggers/readers.

Be sure to check back tomorrow….there’s a new ornament debuting for the lovers of Suess. Friday is another baby-themed ornament, and it’s the one I’d like to keep for myself!

  1. When I was still working outside the home, I got up one morning (after a particularly bad night). I got in the shower, got out a little later, and started drying my hair. My hair seemed different that morning, but I just figured I was tired. I realized a few hours after I got to work that I had forgotten to wash my hair in the shower! I looked like a greaseball all day…

  2. Your story was funny! I am due in September and have yet to have a truly sleep deprived moment as this will be our first baby. I am truly looking forward to it though! I would give this ornament to myself (and the baby of course). We don’t know what we’re going to have so that will be a fun surprise! Thanks!!

  3. I can’t think of a sleep-deprived moment for me (not that I’m sure I didn’t have some), but I can think of one for my husband. He got up with our new baby one night, changed him, then brought him to our bed for me to nurse, WITHOUT putting a new diaper on him!

  4. I’ve several of those moments where I’d wake up in the middle of the night wondering where the baby had gone, not remembering that I’d managed to nurse him and bring him back to his own bed already. Sleep deprivation is so not a fun thing!

  5. I remember one night walking the hallway ALL NIGHT LONG … at this point it was probably 4-5am and I was trying desperately to think of a song to sing but my brain was mush. I had already described everything in the room in a lovely soothing voice and I really needed to sing a lullaby or something else that required no thought. But nothing would come to me AT ALL. Then a song DID pop into my head and I proceeded to sing it over and over for the next hour …

“Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip … that started from this tropic port aboard this tiny ship.”

Yes, that’s right, I sang the theme song to Gilligan’s Island!

Kiddo is 6 yrs old now and I remember that like it was yesterday!

(PS. I’d give this to ornament to my sister – her 2nd boy was born on July 18th.)

  6. When my son was a baby I actually tried dialing a phone number on the microwave. I was forever doing the oddest things for the first month after he was born. I would love to give this as a baby shower gift for a friend who is having her first baby in the fall.

  7. I grabbed the bug spray instead of the cooking oil spray and ALMOST cooked with it! Thank God I noticed in time. (9 kids and all good sleepers, but still a little rough when you nurse full time.)

  8. I would give this to my little sister who is having her 4th baby in August. She would think that this was so precious.

  9. That is so cute! I just remember lots of showers where I’d forget what step I was on, so I’d forget my hair or to shave or to wash my face.

  10. I’m really sleep deprived so I’ve made lots of mistakes! Two of the worst: I’ve left the tub running and flooded the whole bathroom and out into the hallway. Then another time I threw out a poopy diaper at the library before realizing I had no new diapers with me. I had to literally run to the nearest store to buy more diapers before the stroller was used as a port-a-potty!!!

  11. Oh I had a bad moment.

One morning, after only three hours of sleep, I packed Boo’s diaper bag. Diapers, wipes, toys, bottles and nukis. But no Formula! She was spending the entire day with grandma while we ran a ton of long overdue errands. She had to go buy formula since we didn’t have a cell phone at the time. I still hear about it 6 years later.

  12. I hope this counts, but I remember both my husband and I falling asleep standing up, leaning on the crib watching and waiting for our son to finally go to sleep. It reminds me of him now, at 2 years old, falling asleep while playing. Thanks for the chance to win!

  13. WEll, I have two – a couple of weeks ago, I put the gallon of milk in the cupboard instead of the fridge. Middle of the night last night, I changed my son’s diaper, only to put my 20 month old daughter’s diaper on him. my husband laughed at that one this morning!

  14. My sleep deprived night of horror: My first daughter was 2.5 and my second daughter had just been born.
I had a rough night and I was sleeping with baby #2 in the bassinet next to me, I didn’t hear baby #1 get up, wander into the room and get the baby powder.

I woke up to a pure white baby in the bassinet next to me and screamed thinking she had died in the middle of the night.

Yea… it was a rude awakening.

  15. the first week we were home with our daughter, DH forgot on two occasions to buckle our daughter in her infant car seat to take her to the doctors. We walked in and they said, “Oh, did she ride all the way here without her belt on?… DH was horrified he forgot to do that and I had not even noticed it the whole drive there while I sat in the back seat with her. Oh the sleep is much better these days at 10 months old now.
I’d love to give this to my friend that is due in 3 months

  16. My son’s whole first year was one long sleep-deprived nightmare. Yet here we are on the brink of our second child’s arrival. Let’s see, my son left the hospital after 5 days in the NICU and I said to my husband, I just want to stay up all night watching him sleep–well, we stayed up all night alright, but no one got any sleep!

  17. The last few nights for us have been really difficult. My little man who slept through the night since he was only a few weeks old has been up screaming most of the time. Even during the day he’s Mr. Fussypants. I think he might be getting some chompers in! I don’t mind that he’s up because I’m up right now too… he just shrieks and cries unless he’s hursing and that’s becoming physically draining.

  18. About ten years ago when I was going to school full time, working full time and still spending time with my boyfriend, friends, and family, I was extremely sleep deprived! One time I was SO tired when that alarm went off in the morning that I got in the shower with my nightgown on!! OOPS!!!

    Thanks so much!

  19. I am currently sleep deprived with my 3 month old, but when my now6 year old was a baby I was trying to go to the store and could not find my keys anywhere. I had to have my hubby come home from work to help because I was freaking out and he found them in the garbage, he still teases me to this day.

  20. Well I know exactly who I would give it to, I have a friend due in February and she would think that is the cutest gift. 🙂

Although I have to admit all of my most sleep deprived times involved W.W. when he was running a fever. They always seemed to run too high when he was an infant.

    Thanks for hosting a giveaway.

  21. My worst sleep-deprived moment was when I put my kids for a nap, and I was so tired, I had to take one, too. The 17-month-old was pretty active, though, and I didn’t want him tearing up the house, so I lay down in the kids’ bedroom, on the floor, in front of the door so he couldn’t get out. He had just learned to climb out of his crib, but I figured if he woke up before I did, he could play with his toys in there. When I woke up, he had pulled a Houdini move. He was nowhere to be seen!!

To make a long story short, he had taken the screen out of the window (we lived in a garden level apartment) and he had climbed out the window and gone outside! I found him outside watching the workers painting. They gave me “the look”, and told me, “Yeah, he’s been out here watching us paint for quiiiiiite a while.” Horrible. I felt like the Loser Mom of the Year. But we all survived, and now he is papa to four, almost five beautiful grandbabies, so I must not have traumatized him too much!

  22. So my daughter didn’t sleep for the first 18 months. One night after attending to her for the 10th time, I went to use the bathroom and started to pee. Of course the toliet seat cover was down and I peed all over myself and the floor. But really, in the state I was in I had pee, puke, poop or milk all over me at most times anyway.

    Still, not pleasant.

  23. With my third child I was so tired and sleep deprived from a 25 hr labor that my husband would bring me the baby to nurse then come get him when he was done. I barely stated awake while nursing and all I could remember was the baby being in my bed than gone. I would holler out do you have the baby he was just here. It felt like that movie ground hog day. My husband just kept bringing the baby to eat but I just didn’t remember ever really feeding him.

  24. I’d give this to either my sister in law or my best friend. They are both having their first babies this year! BFF in September and SIL in November. This would be funny to give to them!

  25. During my sleep deprevation I would constantly put things that need to be in the refrigerator in the cabinet and vice versa.

  26. I don’t have any sleep deprived stories, I will give this to a friend from college she has a new born few weeks old. Thanks for the contest

  27. I almost backed into the garage door one morning because I forgot to open it when we were leaving to go to the doctors office!
