Indiana State Fair: The Year of the Dairy Cows {a Giveaway}(closed)

Edited 7/25: This giveaway is now closed. I am contacting the winner via email tonight! Thanks for playing! The only thing I don’t like about the Indiana State Fair is that it signals the end of summer. Other than that, it’s the icing on my proverbial summer cake. It’s everything that is special about Indiana, all rolled into a two week blitz on the corner of E. 38th Street.

One of the highlights from the 2011 Fair

There is  food.

There are animals.

There is a Midway full of entertainment.

There are displays and sideshows and cheese sculpture.

There are things that you just have to see to believe (have you seen the world’s largest boar? It’s kind of a State Fair “thing”).

There is also something that just says “Hoosier” to me. For the second year, Indiana Family of Farmers is partnering with Feeding Indiana’s Hungry (FIsH) to donate one pound of food for every State Fair visitor who completes the Recipe Trail.

The Recipe Trail, you ask?

The Recipe Trail consists of 8 locations around the Fairgrounds, plus one more stop at the Indiana Family of Farmer’s booth in the DuPont Food Pavilion for the 9th and final card. Upon finishing the trail, participants will receive a prize, plus an entry for a Frigidaire chest freezer. More details and the official rules can be found on IFOF’s website.

This year the Indiana State Fair is honoring the Dairy Cow (somewhat related: Indiana is #2 in the nation for ice cream and frozen yogurt production). Be on the look out for Indiana’s Dairy mascot, Buttercup. Rumor has it she’s going to be celebrating the duration of the fair!

As part of that celebration, Indiana Family of Farmer’s provided a fun giveaway- this year, in addition to TWO tickets for admission to the Indiana State Fair, the lucky winner will also receive a set of Dairy coupons (2 Milkshakes, 2 Grilled Cheeses, 2 Kids Meals)!

To win, leave a comment telling me your favorite thing about the Indiana State Fair, or if you’ve never been, tell me why you’d like to go.

Indiana Fever Heat Up Indianapolis

(Looking for FREE Fever tickets to June 8th’s game? Skip to the bottom. No really, it’s cool.)

Summer is in full swing around here. The signs? We have tickets to an upcoming Indians game. I’m volunteering this week at vacation bible school. We are counting down the kids turning four and seven. And I’ve already been to an Indiana Fever game.

For the past thirteen years, the Indiana Fever have called the Fieldhouse home during the dog-days of summer. Really, when you think about it, an indoor sport in the heat of summer makes perfect sense.

Last week, I was part of a group of amazing women treated to a night in the Legends suite for the Fever v. Liberty game. It was a totally different and totally fun girls night out. We had the opportunity to talk to Julie Graue, Vice President of Business Operations for the Indiana Fever, and her passion for the WNBA really came through. As I was listening, I felt extremely grateful to have one of only 12 WNBA teams right here in Indianapolis.

The Indiana Fever strives to be family friendly, and it shows in everything they do, from hosting kids activities in the concourse to hosting a birthday party for Freddy Fever every July. Reasonable ticket prices make it easy for the whole family to enjoy a game together.

Don’t believe me? How about the deal on seats for Saturday night games ( 6/16, 7/7, 8/18 and 9/1)-  Lucas Oil Family Night’s presented by The Indianapolis Star. Starting at only $13 you can get a ticket, Pepsi, chips, hot dog and a t-shirt. Dinner and a professional sporting event and a t-shirt. For real.

Free this Friday night, June 8th? Follow this link for 2 FREE tickets (pay only .75 processing fee)!

Disclosure: I received a free ticket to the game and access to the Legends suite. The fun I had and my opinions are all my own.

Vintage Indiana Ticket Giveaway: We are Entering Summer!

This giveaway is now closed– thanks for playing!! I’ll announce the winner when I hear back from her!

In the past few days, Summer 2012 has moved from an idea to an actual real thing that’s going to be happening sooner rather than later. I have it on good authority it’s going to be filled with Awesome, from time at the pool to amazing events around town.

To celebrate the beginning of summer, I am teaming up with Indiana’s Family of Farmers to give away 2 tickets to the first nod to summer- The Vintage Indiana Wine and Food Fest.

INDIANA. It may not be the first place you think of when you think of wine, but actually, there are 63 wineries in Indiana. I’ve been to four of them, I think (I was, you know, drinking while I was there). I’m not the best judge of wine, I’ll admit it- the night that we decided which kit to make at Harmony Winery, I had a star next to every wine I tried. I was good with any of our choices. I’m easy like that. These 63 wineries produce 1.25 million gallons of wine each year. I’m proud to say that my friends and I produced a few gallons of that last fall, and so far this year, I’ve probably consumed a few gallons. I like to support Indiana ventures, what can I say?

This is Vintage Indiana’s 13th year of bringing together the best local food and wine Indiana has to offer. 26 Indiana wineries will be offering samples of over 200 award-winning wines. I can’t wait to draw a star next to every one that I try.

Here’s the thing though- even if wine isn’t your thing (are there really people like that?), there is still plenty to do on June 2nd. In addition to wine samples, there’s also food available from 14 Indiana restaurants, food and cooking demonstrations, a KidsZone for the younger set and live music. There is really nothing I love more than live music outside, in Indiana, on a summer’s day.

Here’s the current line up:

12-2pm: Mike Milligan & Steam Shovel

2:30-4:30: Jennie DeVoe

5:15-6:45: Casey James, former American Idol! Current hit is “Let’s Don’t Call it a Night”

Ticket information (in case you don’t win) is as follows:

Adults tickets are $22 in advance at Marsh Supermarkets or online at www.vintageindiana.com; $25 at gate

Designated Driver tickets are $10 and include unlimited soft drinks and water. No wine glass or wine samples allowed on this ticket.

Kids ages 6-20 are $5. Under 5 years old are free.

Here’s the Ticket Giveaway to Vintage Indiana Wine and Food Festival:

So you want to go to this, right? I mean, there’s great entertainment, there’s great food, and there are 200 varieties of wine being poured. What’s not to like?

To enter to win 2 adult passes (with drinking privileges) please do the following:

1) (required) Leave a comment here telling me something about either wine, an Indiana winery you’ve been to or want to visit.

2) For up to 2 additional entries (one for Twitter, one for Facebook): Tweet or post the following on Facebook:

“I entered to win tix to @vintageindiana from @gotchababy & @FamilyofFarmers & you can too: http://wp.me/pVbJS-HY #VintageIN”

(feel free to take out the @ if you’re posting it on FB) and then leave a comment (one for each action) here telling me that you did.

This giveaway will be open until Thursday, May 24th at 9pm. I will email the winner, and the winner will have a day to get back to me- if I don’t hear anything by 9pm May 25th, I’ll pick another winner.

Good Luck!

Want some more chances to win? My friends Katie, Sarah, Angie and Crystal have ticket giveaways going on RIGHT NOW. Check back here often, and as more giveaways go up, I’ll link them here:

Disclosure: As an IFOF Ambassador,  I received compensation for running this giveaway and 2 tickets to the event for my own personal use. My experiences with Indiana wine are all my own.
