Ok, so last week I chronicled how well the Babe was adjusting, and it’s true, she really is. But there are a few things that I’m beginning to notice/realize that are the downside to my little utopian plan:
a)at this point, the Babe is only awake for about 30 minutes before I drop her off in the morning. 15 of those minutes are spent taking a bottle, changing a diaper, dressing and getting to Rainbow. That leaves 15 minutes of other interactions. Yesterday while she didn’t cry when I left her, she gave me a look, as if to say, “Um, Mom, where are you going?? We’ve hardly said hello today!”
b)at this point, when I bring her home she takes a big long nap. On one hand, it’s nice. On the other hand, I want to spend time with her!! When she wakes up we’ll have 3-4 hours before she goes down for the night.
c) She does things without me!! 🙁 Today “McGruff”, you know, the crime dog came to the center. She sat on her teacher’s lap and watched the whole thing. Granted, we just saw “the Very Hungry Caterpillar” together about 2 weeks ago, but she hadn’t met McGruff yet!!!
But overall, things are really just fine. Today when I picked her up, Ms. L mentioned that a few minutes prior she said something to the effect of, “Mommy will be here to pick you up soon”, and that she stopped what she was doing and looked around. I get the absolute best hugs and snuggles when I pick her up in the afternoon.
Other “big girl” things going on: If I’m talking about her in front of her, and say her name, she’ll stop and look at me. She’s coming to her highchair when she’s hungry, and to the edge of the tub when she’s done with her bath. She’s really enjoying all of our homemade juice–when she sees me rev up the juicer she does her “oh I’m so happy, please keep it coming” sign (the only one she really does yet) and sucks down apple/ginger/carrot water like nobody’s business.
Can she really be 10 months old already????
I know what you mean about doing things without you! Little Reid got to go to CHuckECheez with his daycare for a birthday party a few weeks ago, granted he’s only 2.5 months at the time, but still–his FIRST visit there! Without me! There is never enough time to spend with the little ones when we have to whisk off to work…
