A little more political than usual

Ok, so this is a little heavier than my usual fluff about the Babe and what she did at daycare. But this is disturbing to me, so I am sharing.

I have a cyber-friend who is in the process of adopting a baby who is 1/64 Native American (I won’t name the particular tribe). 1/64, you read that correctly. Anyway, it’s procedure to alert the appropriate tribe when an adoption takes place, so they did. Now the tribe is contesting the adoption.

I was stunned when I found this out–when we were going through the process, they told us not to worry about having a match where Native American descent was involved–you had to alert the appropriate tribe, but really they just wanted record keeping information, and your child could use that for things like scholarship money.

Well my friend has done research, and apparently, sometimes the appropriate tribe wins, regardless of what is best for the child. Read this and tell me what you think.

Personally, I think this is a case of a law being REALLY misinterpreted.

  1. This sounds so “un-American” to me.
I certainly hope this law is revisited. It just doesn’t seem right at all.
