I promise to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth….

mental note to self: the next time you go on vacation, give yourself at least two days to detox from said vacation

Getting out of the car and onto the scale is not a pleasant experience. But it really wasn’t as bad as it could have been.

I’m up 2.5 lbs since my weigh-in two weeks ago. It really coulda been worse. A lot worse.

In our “Real World”-esque house, the food seem to grow like the loaves and the fishes throughout the week. The nearest grocery store was twenty minutes away, and a trip was made almost daily to get things we ran out of that we didn’t think we’d run out of so soon. And junk food was brought into the house each and every time.

Here’s the thing–at home, I can honestly say I’ve made that lifestyle change–I don’t buy loads of cookies, snack cakes, snack mixes etc, because I know have no impulse control when it comes to those things. So I just don’t buy them. But if I have the opportunity I shall eat them…….and eat them often. And once I start eating stuff like that, my usual snack of fruit seems a lot less appealling.

Ah well. You live and learn. And learn again and again and again. My shorts still fit. The Nutty Bar tasted really good (I did only have one bar). The Chips Ahoy (with chocolate and peanut butter chunks) tasted really good. They tasted really good every time I ate one or two. Which was a lot. (OK, several times every single day–no lie) I only had 2 ice cream cones the entire week, one piece of cheesecake and one creme brulee. And there were potato chips, cheesy snack mix (with sun chips, pretzels and cheese doodles all coated in cheese), and probably 10 other things I’m forgetting. And THE WINE. Oh was the wine flowing. And the sex on the beach (the drink, silly!). Starting just about everyday by 3 o’clock, the drinking commenced. Maybe that’s why we were all still talking to each other.

After looking over the list, it’s amazing I only consumed 8750 calories that I didn’t expend! I did walk a bit every day, and I hardly ever took the elevator (affectionately known as the ella-gator by M) up and down the two full flights of stairs. And there was walking on the shore. And floating in the pool. I wouldn’t call it swimming or even pool walking, but hey, having to kick a little bit over to the side of the pool to get your drink burns more calories than lounging in a chair (which I also did a lot of).

So there you have it. I’m off to eat a green leaft now, very hungry caterpillar style.

  1. LOL! We just got back from vacation too! I only made it in the pool to cool down and then walked back to nap on my chair some more. I did a full week of this and of coarse eating, eating, and more eating. *grin* Aren’t vacations great? Now it is back to fruit and yogurt. I do like fruit and yogurt. Really, I do….

    ((Hugs))

  2. do not fret
    stay the course

  3. 2 1/2 pounds after vacation isn’t THAT bad! I’m sure you will be able to get right back on track. Good luck this week!

  4. So glad you enjoyed your vacation. The way I see it, now you can have no regrets – you ate yummy food and really enjoyed yourself. Now you are ready to jump back on the bandwagon and keep doing great! Good job! : )

  5. Yeah, vacation can get you a bit off track, but isn’t it awesome that we can get right back ON that track, making good choices?! I think you should have given yourself at least a day or two. I was back down after 2 days coming back from vacation. 😀 Path to Health

  6. Remember, I had to walk ALOT to get the resistant toddler to bed, and the stroller we brought didn’t have beverage holders!! (alas, no cocktail sipping while walking around and around the block)

  7. I’m sorry, I cannot live without my drink holders (all 4 of them) on my stroller…..

I am SOOOOOOO glad you’re back! Even if just very slightly more than when you left. Don’t worry. You’ll be so busy w/ work and getting ready for your party, that you’ll be right back on your amazing track!
