And Now, She is Three

This morning, MAM woke up knowing full-well it was, in fact, her “birstday”. She is three. No longer a toddler even, really. I stopped counting her age in months many moons ago. She’s got the potty training thing down now, and accidents are few and far between.

Here she is, ready for a day at the track. She’s wearing her “track hat” -she knows the logo is for the race track and insists on bringing it every time we go. She also knows you wear a pass around your neck, so there you have her ready for suite action.

Now that she’s three, she knows about birthdays, knows that there are candles and cakes and presents involved.

She’s much, much more a preschooler than I probably want to admit.
How much of a preschooler is she?

Putting the “meet your teacher” date for next week and her school supply list aside along with her school polo shirt, this is how much of a preschooler she is:
I want my own computer for my birstday!”

“Look it’s a map ball!” Me: “Honey, that’s called a globe.” “Well, it’s like a ball.”

Her speech and expressions are just too much some days. For the record, if you ask her, she’s wearing khaki shorts in that photo above. Not tan or brown, but khaki.

How much of a preschooler is she?

She’s outgrown her 5-point harness car seat. Literally, she’s outgrown the height specifications. So for her birstday, she got a brand new booster seat that’s supposed to fit her for the next 17″ of growth. Anyone placing bets as to how long this one lasts???

How much of a preschooler is she?

She’s always on the hunt for friends. Anyone under 4 feet tall will do. She’s also calling me her best friend, which, of course, means that she can stay a preschooler forever in my book.

Happy 3rd Birthday, sweet, sweet girl of mine!

A weekend of fun and firsts

MAM had a fabulous day Friday, if I do say so myself. Sprinkler day at Rainbow, swimming with friends at home, cheeseburgers and french fries for dinner, French silk pie for her birthday cake, some prezzy’s, what else could a two year old ask for? She was up til almost 11pm, what with all the sugar and toys and what not!

Saturday morning we were all dog-tired, but we dragged ourselves out of bed to head downtown to meet MAM’s bmom, J, and bbro, Z. We went to the state museum and to the IMAX theater there. If you’re going to go to see your first movie, you may as well make it a big one!

The IMAX show was Sharks, 3D and it was really, really cool! MAM was really tired and didn’t wear her glasses, but I did, and it was wild. It really did seem like the jellyfish were swimming in front of us!

MAM made it through the whole 45 minute movie, she got a little antsy, but did just fine overall. We had a good visit with J and Z–not much is new on their front.

After lunch, MAM fell asleep on the way home, and stayed asleep when we brought her upstairs. BgK and I quickly followed suit–we both crashed for two hours as well!

This afternoon we’re off to a cookout after nap time.

The weekend fun just never ends!

And Now She is TWO

At the skate park

Today MAM will officially turn TWO. It feels like she’s been two for awhile now–since say, June, when the talking and the running and independence started to surge forward and take control of our little world.

Now instead of a baby, we’ve got a little person–a person who knows what she likes and what she doesn’t. A person who has friends–friends she can name and ask about on a daily basis. A person who can make choices like juice or milk, goldfish or honey bee crackers, string cheese or yellow cheese, Crocs or sneakers, pink socks or white. She has a keen sense of order and knows where things go-knows where her shoes go by the door, knows the dirty dishes go in the sink, knows how the car seat clips together, knows how to put on her shoes. She tries to get herself dressed, can take off her diaper, swim across the pool with water wings and jump with gusto.

She knows that to start any activity or to “go” you have to say, “1, 2, 3 GO!” first, or “Ready, Set, Go!”. She knows the difference between what a prop plane and a helicopter sounds like. After driving by a huge crane at a construction site all last week and asking, “what’s that?”, she pointed to it yesterday and said, “Look, Mommy–a crane!”.

And this month I’ve been upgraded from Mama to Mommy (except in times of crisis). Now I am greeted with, “Hi Mommy, what’s up?”

And when she asks that, I think to myself, “I’m the mom to the best girl in the whole wide world, that’s what’s up!”

Happy Birthday, my sweet, beautiful girl. Happy SECOND Birthday.
