Thankful: Grown in My Heart Blog Carnival IV

There is a little “thanks” that we say in preschool before every meal.

“We are thankful for the food before us,

We are thankful for the friends beside us,

We are thankful for the love among us,

We are thankful.”

My list is a long one. As I sit here in a warm house, cozy on the couch, typing on my laptop with two sweet babies asleep upstairs, it’s hard to know how to begin.

Since this post is for Grown in My Heartheart, a community I wouldn’t be a part of if it weren’t for the adoption of my children, I feel like I should start there.

I am thankful that we made the decision to adopt when we did–in the fall of 2004. I am thankful that all of our paper work came together (in hindsight) smoothly and quickly, for as we were becoming home-study approved, J was thinking about placing MaM for adoption when she was born. If we had been delayed, our profile book may not have been available that day in July when J went to consider prospective adoptive parents.

I’m thankful that J felt some sort of connection to us via said profile book. That there was some instant level of comfort between us. I”m thankful that she invited us to the hospital for the birth of both of the children. I am so incredibly thankful that both children were born perfect and healthy in every way.

I’m thankful that open adoption has worked out so well for our children–that they know J and they know Z. I am thankful that they are loved and accepted by their bio family and their adoptive family.

I’m thankful that I’m sharing this parenting ride with @bgKahuna, the world’s most enthusiastic dad.

I’m thankful that because of the internet, I’m connect to so many more adoptive families than I would be if the internet wasn’t what it is today.

I am thankful.

Taking a Break…of Sorts

I’m officially on Thanksgiving Break as of this evening. I don’t know how much of a break it will be–there’s a worker coming to fix some water damage tomorrow morning, we have shopping to do tomorrow afternoon, and  we are heading north for a good part of the weekend. *But* no part of the weekend will entail waking and shuttling the entire family out of the house by 7:30am, and for that, I am grateful. And, that omission alone qualifies the next five days as a break of sorts.

Instead, we (or at least me, and Junior) will be up at the crack of dawn with no place to go. He’s entered the, “Hey! I’ve slept for a few hours and now I’m raring to go! Get up! No, I mean it–get up!” phase, where wake up time can be anytime after 4am.t If I resist, he makes a point of finding the loudest toy he can to demonstrate how serious he is about starting the day. He signs for his milk with a fervor, sometimes leading us to the fridge in case we’ve forgotten where we keep it.These are 1-2 pots of coffee mornings, when 10am feels like noon, noon feels like 4pm, and 4pm–can we go to bed now, please, sort of days.

Maybe I’ll post more then…………….

Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda….

So what kind of post should follow up a post that features your husband dressed as Hannah  MAN-tana? Preferably one talking about how he won the contest. He didn’t (thought kudos for trying, really)-so there went that idea.

I could have followed up with a post about Grandparent-palooza–it was Grandparent day at school last week, and ALL THREE of MaM’s g’parents made it! She was in 7th heaven, and it was really special to have them all here to spend some time with her.

I could have posted about the fabulous jewelry designer I met at our little school’s very own holiday bazar–Amy, proprieter of Stinky Toes Jewelry Designs. I think every person who came to shop bought a pendant for themselves or someone they know. Me? I bought for me, and one for my grandma. You can buy one too…http://www.etsy.com/shop/stinkytoesdesign

I could have posted, but these thoughts flow right through my brain these days, at a speed too fast to stop and record them. It’s a good thing that BgK takes even more pictures of the children than he does of himself in drag….
